Negative Battery cable 200 1989



Probably not. You only get a code on these cars if you have a toilet paper tube plugged in instead of the AMM. The ECU is pretty gullible with the AMM, and sometimes the AMM can be a dirty stinking liar. Pull the AMM connector and then see if the car runs better.

FYI, I had this same problem when I disconnected my battery on my '90. Reset the adaptive memory, and it couldn't compensate for a bad AMM. A good used AMM has kept her running fine since.

The later FI systems compensate for all kinds of problems, so several components can be all out of whack, and the car computer will keep the car running fine. Reset the memory, and then those problems manifest themselves.

Also check the accordion intake hose. Betcha have a hole on the outside of the bend next to the strut tower.
