is the in tank pump working? how about the age of the fuel pump and radio suppressor relays .........they can melt solder jointsinside and momentarily lose contact .....you are correct about the engine harness on a 84 .however when it goes bad it is a permanent problem yours seems intermittent. the in tank pump will show problems below a half of a tank of gas as well as uphill or around right hand corners hope this helps
