No Start after changing taillight 700 1987

Hello:

Are there wires in the trunk of a 87 740 that might account for a fuel pump not turning on? Night before last, we had to change the left taillight—the previous one had fallen out and below next to the lense where I found it floating in some water (didn’t discover pooled water anywhere else)—it was my ten year old son who finally had the dexterity to fish it out of there, but as it was getting dark and we were getting frustrated, perhaps we knocked something loose. The next morning the car would not start—the fuses are good; there’s spark; I switched the fuel relay for a known good one—still no start. Maybe it’s just coincidence and the fuel pump has died simultaneously? Any ideas? Thanks for the help.
