In addition to Herb's comments, I'll add the Hall effect electrical connector on the distributor. The plastic connector ages, cracks, and eventually falls out of the distributor. The connector hangs on the three wires to the Hall effect pick-up , and thew wires will eventually chafe and cause the problem you experienced. It is more likely to be the fuel injection relay.
