EJO,
Unfortunately, it is too late now to get in on the Great Race. For something as big as the New York to Paris event, you'd have to raise at least $300K, maybe more. Unless a millionaire steps forward to finance it, there is just not enough time to raise the funds.
But, if this sort of thing interests you, I thought of a way to finance an adventure rally team.
Sell stock in the entire venture. Say $100 per share. The number of shares per person or corporation is not limited. Everyone who buys into the car and team would get a certificate of ownership.
At the end of the rally or the season or the year (whatever purpose the team was formed for), a drawing is held among all certificate holders, one of whom will now own the car and spares, delivered to their home, to do with as they see fit. Any cash remaining in the team's name would be given to charity.
There are rough edges to smooth but that is the general idea.
Lets see, there is that Amazon in Calgary looking for a home. And the Targa Tasmania and Targa Newfoundland are annual events. I would buy into a team to field that car, built to FIA appendix K specs, and campaigned worldwide for a year or two. Heck, I might buy two or three shares of that for a chance to own the car after the events have been run. Now you only need about a thousand more people to obiligate to the same thing. ;-)
