When I do the head gasket...

Don't use G-05, only use green coolant.
Elring is top,

I don't know about it costing $300 for a head rebuild.

Order the $35 FCP Groton head kit.

My local motor man here has been doing motors for generations.(His father works at the shop.). Anyway, his grandson charged me all of $75 bucks for a vat and valve job.

If I were you I'd make it as easy as you can for your engine guy. Take the valves out with a C - Clamp and keep them in order for your engine guy (in fact, keep everything in order). Then remove all the senders and take it to be vatted. Then once you get it back from the hot tank, you'll be ready to reset the valve clearances and torque that head back on. Make sure that the valve clearance is correct, if not it could burn a valve (too tight). Make sure you install new intake valve stem seals.

On the B23F I reserected, I installed the later style springs and retainers. You don't have to, unless you notice a spring that is shorter then the others.
You'll really enjoy the difference a valve job makes. It is well worth it.

You should order a new timing belt and tensioner, but I wouldn't worry about too much else, That oil box sure is nice though. If you think that the water pump is screwed up, throw it away, you don't want to be stranded for $35.

Those new nuts for the exhaust are also essential, so buy those too!!

Merry Christmas!!!!
