Which brings up the other point: My engine came from a 1975 car, and the distributor has the plug-in for the electronics, but all that has been removed.
The MSD-6a unit was good as long as it lasted (1991-present) and may still work. I think the most likely problem was the cheap pickup. The person who installed it triggered it through a Crane Hall-effect pickup unit. I may test it out later using points to fire it.
Luckily the wiring diagram is right on the back of the unit!
If it works OK, I might install it out of sight on the Fiat Abarth. I'm getting a little points float above 7,000 rpm and this might me a cure. You can't have any power-robbing problems when your car displaces only 1000cc!
