If you don't hear that faint click as the throttle is moved off idle, the throttle linkage is more likely to be worn or maladjusted, rather than the switch being "busted".
It could be that the switch itself is out of adjustment—but that should be the final step in a sequence of checks and adjustments that begins with the throttle plate, link rod, and "Base Idle" speed.
