Shop around for a decent machine shop that you can work with. I have a full service machine shop at the auto supply I do business with locally. Very reasonable prices and good work.
I forgot to mention the possibility of electrolsis damage to the head. If there is any it can welded in and then the final surface will be established by a cut on the head.
Any spare time can be spent cleaning up the top of the block and chasing the head bolt holes, but you are aware of that from reading the FAQ's.
The first few times I applied the torque to yield spec of an addtional 90 degrees on the head bolts I held my breath, but the bolts are up to the task if you are... A very long breaker bar helps a lot.
Take your time and enjoy the process. You are saving a ton of money.
