auto trans question 140-160 1973

It's a 164 B30E FI. It runs pretty well and is tuned pretty well. Just idles pretty low in drive. I'm not a fan of auto's for several reasons. Pulling up to a stoplight and having a vehichle that seems like it's going to stall out or that does stall just bugs me. Mostly because I don't really know where to look to sort the problem out. Ignorance isn't always bliss. If it were a manual I could at least give it a little clutch and rev it a little to keep it from sputtering and stalling - until I figured out what the problem was.
