Thanks for the offer. I might want to do that to at least restore a unit to my wagon (presently has no ignition of any kind). I might have a piece or two of your 1800E around here... :)
It's also my understanding that crane bought allison, which is why I called it an Allison/Crane unit.
I got back to the car in the park and swapped distributors and it ran fine all the way home. I do not live too far from Forest Park, but it was a few miles of driving - far more than it took for the system to die this morning.
I think rules out a problem with the coil. But just to be safe, I removed it and put in a blue bosch coil from a 140.
I'll have to take a further look at the Allison unit, but I'm not sure what I'd be looking for. Just as a note, the unit lacks a fuse of any kind (it would have been a good idea to install one in retrospect) so it getting fried by an electrical problem is quite reasonable.
