It is common for M400 and M410 trannies to get noisy after about 100,000 miles
because of a lube issue on the layshaft bearings.
I'm not sure I understand about the clutch. Is it quiet when the clutch is
engaged (car going) or disengaged?
Most are noisy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, sometimes noisiest in 1st and 3rd, depending
on which bearings are worst. This is with the clutch engaged and the car under
a lot of power.
They can be noisy for quite a while before other problems show up.
