One Note.. 444-544

Hello,

A couple of days ago I wrote a very long tirade on the quality of original Volvo parts and reproduction parts, but every time I tried to post it, it was rejected as spam.

Long story short, GCP does not make all the parts, and even GCP has problematic parts.

I have started a list of poorly made parts.

And speaking of making parts, anyone out there making any of the multitude of non available parts, or repairing any parts that are not available.

I have had made the special layshaft needle bearings for the latest version of the M40/M41 which used only 42 shorter needle bearings than the earlier versions which used 48. I had over 2000 made and thats enough to rebuild almost 50 transmissions. I also can rebuild the latest version of the 1800e/es turn signal switches WITH ALL NEW GUTS. I can rebuild the early steering column ignition lock assemblies that came on the 1970-1973 1800e/es, 1967-1972 140/160 and 1969-1970 122/121. My latest project is to have steering box shafts repaired as I no longer have any rebuildable steering boxes.

There are other people making repair parts for old Volvos, ie Mike Dudak at Foreign Auto Parts makes a real nice repair part for ALL 1800 interior door handles that repairs the 3 prong chrome interior door latch handle, Don Thibault has reproduction overdrive/horn column switches for the pre-1970 1800 and reproduction cast air intake grilles for early 1800.
