Hello All!
OK, here come the timing belt questions.
There are more timing belt posts here than Clinton voters!
I have spent hours reading, but am still nervous about this job.
Wife heard metal-crashing while cranking. Now, no-start situation; turning over but not quite catching. Checked all possibilities(thanks brickboard posters) and decided a timing belt change was next.
Removed upper cover. White mark on cam sprocket lined up with back cover mark, but notch on harmonic balancer was not lined up with 0 mark.
Removed harmonic balancer (thanks again posters, I bought the tool!) and now have a good look at things.
Lots of gunk, and some antifreeze fluid seeping from pump. Seals and water pump change?
White mark on cam/back cover is lined up. As is the intermediate sprocket white mark/back cover mark. But I do not see a mark of any kind on the crankshaft sprocket with which to line up. I used a flashlight and mirror to check below, but no marks.
What to do?
I see most posts(and FAQ) for changing TB assumes all is aligned.
How do I change the belt but make sure things are aligned properly?
Can/should I rotate sprockets once the belt is removed?
Thanks
