"There are more timing belt posts here than Clinton voters!"
(except maybe 'OD not working' posts)
Just did my first 245 timing belt yesterday. Also did the pump and V-belts. Had the seals ready to go but didn't do them. Also read everything here 10 times. Its was easy, except for me forgetting the replacement order of the V-belts (doh!).
Bentley manual says if something's off a degree or two, rotate the INT and CAM shafts first, then crankshaft last.
Like Tony said, my belt marks didn't go where they said they should and I finally deduced that it doesn't matter. Critical thing is having marks on pullys right before slipping TBelt on.
Replace that water pump. Do the V belts too.
I got a good look at my oil breather box and it was an oil mess. The only seal that showed leakage was the crankshaft, but it looked like a long and slow kind of action. I cleaned up the grunge below the crankshaft and I'm going to replace the breather box first--which, from what I've read, will cause those three seals to purge some oil if the box is clogged. So I figure to get the engine to "breathe" right again and that should take stress off the seals. Now that I have had a look at the seals and have them on hand, I will plan on replacing them on the next TB replacement, 50k from now.
Hope that helps.
