Wow! Well I am learning what type of people we have here on these forums. I do want to sincerely thank those who did explain why this happens, and why it was designed that way. What a turnoff it is to see some of the posts that are on here. Great, make fun of the person who is looking to gain understanding. I understand that you all are very proud of your Volvo brand and are all very familliar with these symptoms, but for the average consumer who would rely on the idiot light, 5 of them coming on is quite strange indeed. In every other vehicle I have owned/driven, etc... symptoms like that mean an electrical nightmare. I hope those of you who had snide things to say about the situation feel better about yourself and your Volvos, I'm proud of all of you, good job. This takes me back to when I posted about a transmission issue and someone had the nerve to say "perhaps what you are describing is normal behavior" C'mon people, get over yourself; you are not the only one who knows anything about cars. Again, I thought this was a place to share info and experiences.
Again thanks for the info for those of you that had something useful to say, I do appreciate it. As for the rest, maybe someday I can be as wise as you all are, then again, maybe not.
