You have covered it pretty well. A couple of quick additions.

The E and F intake ports are the same. Its the exhaust that are differnt
where the 72 and later heads had an anti smog, flow restricting configuration in the exhaust ports.
Remember the Chevy V8 heads that were called "smog heads"in the early '70s and didn't flow as well as earlier heads from the '60s? Same thing here except that in the Volvo F head the extra material allows us to make a better port out of it with the correct work.

For anyone that didn't "get" the explanation of how to identify the different heads, email me direct and I will send photos. They soon will hopefully be up on our revised website.

You can make an estimate of core shift on 2 axis by looking at how well the
head bolt holes are centered in the cast boss for each hole. The verticle axis generally requires and internal inspection.
