Sorry, I'm a wire-crimper and bolt wrencher and don't know too much about machining. So I only understood about half of that..

What's CC mean and how do I measure it with the head off? If you mean measure it's thickness, I'm still w/o a micrometer. If you mean something else (aside from raw displacement) I'm lost.

Okay I read a bit about this here . Very interesting site I'm not sure if he's got an airplane or a Chevy Corvair... Info on Lapping and CCs. The laping would seem to require some skill.

Valve guides. They look original, I've removed the #1 valve and examined the seat and valve itself. This motor got some wear after whatever was done. The guides appear straight, but they are not bronze or otherwise.

The valve I removed has pretty clear grind on it. The grind is concave, and there is a 1/32"-1/64" (approx) edge to the valve. The valves are stamped ATE

I did note that the rubber umbrella caps were soft and rubbery - not the hard brittle things I'm used to finding. Something was done here.

I'm reading up on valve lapping. It sounds like the valve grinding I notice in the repair manuals. The first guide I found (non-volvo) mentioned corrosion behind the valves. I've found only a smooth intake tunnel - quite unlike the other head I got into back in March.

There are no hardened valve seats.

#1 spring compression is not what I expected. The springs are supposed to be new, but this one can be pushed down a bit with the force of my hand. Is that normal?
