Adding a relay, where to hook up the hot wire 700 1989

I too would pull it directly from the battery. The Alternator wire is a heavy gauge and most likely not be a bad place either But why put undue Current strain on that wire. Just rune heavy fresh nice wire right from the Voltage source. If something goes wrong, you aren't pulling down a valuable Engine accessory (Alternator).

And yes, fuse your setup.
