REBUILD OR REPLACE 200 1989

I agree with Herb - skip the rebuild and get a used one. Statistically, relatively few red blocks die before the cars they're in run into trees or rust out.

I would add just a couple more steps, though, while the replacement engine is out. In addition to the rear main seal, I would pull the oil trap/breather box to make sure it's clean and functional, then pull the pan and check the oil pump for wear. Both of those are a ton easier to do with the engine not in the car!
