Hi guys,
My folks have officially charged me with maintaining their 1992 Honda Accord, now that I've had success with my Volvo (transmission problems aside). Just did the ca and rotor, and she runs better now. I have a question for you guys I hope you can answer, it's only kind of Honda-specific.
The Honda forums are a rough place. The members preach and try to mess with you. So I don't trust them.
Anyway, I'm doing an automatic transmission service, according to OEM procedure. It's a simple drain-and-fill followed by a dozen miles of driving, then another drain-and-fill. Done it several times on my Volvo, no big deal.
The big deal is fluid selection. Apparently, only OEM Honda ATF is what I should use, but that confuses me. My folks, two years ago, had the fluid flushed and replaced, and I'm sure the tranny shop used a generic ATF (Castrol Import ATF is the most common at shops). So, that makes me think: since there have been no problems, do I listen to my own logic and use the same (I have 5 quarts of Castrol Import ATF in my trunk), or do I believe the Honda forums? They are convinced my transmission will explode if exposed to non-Honda ATF!
What do you think, guys?
Thanks!
Ari
