Engine Conversion - PRV 6 to B230 Turbo 700 1987

The easiest swap is a B280F from an 88 or later 760 or 780. It's the same engine but totally reengineered so that it works properly and has a reasonable life expectancy.

Another possibility would be an Alfa Romeo V6 from a 164, though this would be a MUCH more complicated conversion. This, to my way of thinking, would be far more appropriate than a Toyota engine (and little, if any, more difficult)

The Ford 5.0 V8 conversion is yet another option, particularly well suited to the sturdy live-axle rear end of the 87 780.

I have a 90 780 Turbo with a blown head gasket (between cylinders) or worse, and am seriously considering converting it to a B230F/M46/3.31 rear end. Style, comfort, and......30 MPG.
