Your problem is almost certainly in the connections within/on the fuel sending unit.
This is located below some access panels in the rear. Fix is in FAQ's. Here's the link.

You will want to replace the in tank fuel pump if so equiped, or if you have the one pump system replace it if the mileage is above 125k or so. Challenging but worth it as a shop will probably charge you 4-5 hours labor plus kill you on the parts.
