i just had a look at a friend 240 with a belt change done last week.
same exact symptoms described.
2 things to look at:
take out the plugs, are they white all over like they are running hot as blazes? a symptom of advanced timing.
line upo the crank tdc mark, take off the dizzy and see if the rotor is pointing straight at #1.
if yes now remove the upper t belt cover and u will likely find the cam sprocket tdc point is 1 tooth 'past' (towards the passengers side) its tdc mark on the back of the cover.
if so all you have to do is loosen the tensioner and carefully peel the belt off the cam pulley, rachet it back till it lines up and then replace the belt. leave the belt on the other pulleys.
you will notice and immediate change.
