second that 200 1979

Well guys, that certainly is a very real possibility and I will yank that cover off and look. Would not surprise me since the engine has been running hot hot hot even before I changed the seals. It is possible that thing has been advanced awhile. I have another string of board postings recently speaking to the possibility of a bad electrical circuit thing on the back of the instrument panel causing the temp gauge reading to show hot. But it does feel pretty hot and it goes up to the red within less than 10 minutes of starting. This makes me think my timing belt is advanced and burning fuel improperly making the exhaust manifold real hot, real quick, and heating up the whole block. I am going to put a new catalytic on there since this one has never been changed since I bought the car in 1998. No telling how old that thing really is. But I will reset that belt first and see what happens. Thanks for all your help. While I'm on a roll with such good input, one other thing on this car that is frustrating is that I cannot budge the distributor for timing, even after loosening the bolt and spraying tons of 'blaster on that area. So far I have refrained from using my hammer. It is also almost impossible to get anything on it to grab it and turn it to set the timing mark. Any ideas???
