To Buy or Not to Buy... 444-544

Hi Nick, IMHO these are the most "drivable" of the 444s, (I drive my 58 444 almost daily) this one appears to have the "optional" fold out rear glass too. The main thing to look out for (as I am sure you know) is Rust and Rust!
The B16s are good engines with more power than I expected, but be aware that they are more expensive to get parts for than the B18-20 series engines.
Except for the dash/instruments and split windshield these are basicly about the same car as the pre-61 544s. They have better rear suspension and brakes than earlier 444s. It may well be a 3 speed, many were. If it is a 4spd. it will have the M4 (not M40) and these transmissions are weaker than the 40s and have a poorer choice of ratios (again, IMHO). You can retrofit the M40 to the B16 but it takes a little doing!
As I said earlier, if rust is not an issue I don't see how you can go wrong at the price for a running car that looks like it is pretty complete.
Just my .02!

Cheers!
