I just went through this same trouble.
I had to get the battery cable connection to the cable end repaired at an alternator shop.
The heavy plus battery cable was green with oxide where it went into the clamp crimp connection. They repaired it with what looked like a welder to get everything cherry red and then used acid core solder then it was OK.
I don't think this would have worked with a torch.
There's two ground connections for the battery one under the power steering
pump and the other more obvious under the AC pipes.
Examine all of the cable ends at the battery and starter motor for any signs of corrosion and oxidation.
Its better to repair the battery cable if possible, since the new one is about $150.
