With our cars, being as old as they are, it is usually something small and overlooked. I remember changing my blinker bulb on the driver side, then none of the running and blinker lights worked. Turns out I just needed to replace all of the bulbs which had all just given up at once when the new bulb lit up. Okay, so maybe bulbs are a far cry from what you have gotten yourself into. It can get weird, but don't let that discourage you.
Keep in mind that it is possible to get bad parts out of the box. The brickboard saw that recently with an O2 sensor, and it ran people around in circles. Sometimes you have to just go back to the beginning to find the solution to your problem. It can be easy to be mislead, when you are poking around the engine looking for clues, and get distracted by a future project that is totally unrelated.
Just curious, where did you get your parts from? Also, was your rotor red or black? Just because something says bosch on it, I believe some parts dealers distribute cheaper versions of certain parts made by the OEM to be able to compete in a market flooded with aftermarket parts. I bought a distributor from autozone once, it was black instead of red, and was hard as all hell to get on. I finally got it on, but down the road took my car in to have my mechanic look at it because the engine was missing under load. Turns out its was the spark plug wire boot causing the spark to arch to the block. He tried to get the distributor off to check the rotor and was baffled why he couldn't get it back on. He replaced it for free with another bosch distributor, only this one was red, and went on like butter. Okay maybe butter and a couple sure fitting clicks, but you get it.
Sorry for the long post.
Best of luck to you,
Justin
