Under Pressure 120-130

Jeff;

Welcome to vintage Volvos and the Forum!

Oil pressure indications are highly temperature dependent and on which oil is in the engine to begin with (and condition), so before getting spooked by anything you might see on the gauge, I'd take some time to just take note of what you see under the various operating conditions...right after Start-up (cold oil) you can expect to see all the way up to 90PSI if you rev it up (not suggested, but the oil-pump does have an overpressure relief valve), and at idle with hot oil, you could expect to see as low as 20-30 PSI with a low level or high mileage engine situation (I'd be happy with anything above 30 PSI at idle)...neither condition is really a "red flag" situation, just get used to what the gauge is showing and take note of any changes from that...B18s are pretty bulletproof...you can hurt 'em, but you really have to work at it.

Cheers
