I don't know how to tell a type 1 from a type 2 short of measuring the cam or laying eyeballs on the markings on the back end of it. A type 3 has a mounting ear for an alternator -- forward of the generator bracket with a tapped hole in the front -- and another ear on each side for a bellhousing brace (one under the starter motor, and another on the opposite side.
