George: Thanks for the helpful referral to the guide on AAV repair at the 1800 list. I followed the steps and was able to repair my AAV yesterday. It turned out that the piston was stuck in the bore of the slider due to corrosion. As a result, the AAV was stuck in the open position. After disassembling the AAV, I thoroughly cleaned, sanded and polished everything, reassembled, and tested the AAV in a pot of hot water -- works fine now.
