is there a practical and durable fix 200

I have used this method in a pinch,
First drill a hole at each end of the crack to stop it from running,next grind a trench maybe a sixteenth to an eighth deep all along the crack,then braze the crack with a torch and flux covered brass rod.You may or may not be able to actually flow the metals together but the brass makes a really sweet patch.
