Your instructions on removing the poser seat were pretty correct. Here's how it went for anyone who may still be reading (or may do it themselves):
* Disconnect the battery first. After tipping the seat back, I realized that it does not take much at all to set off the airbag. there's only about 1/8 an inch difference between the sensor's safe and FIRE! positions. Yikes.
* There's no need to disconnect the seatbelt unless you're taking the seat out of the car.
* Remove the little plastic covers on the three corners of the seat track. The front-door-side one requires a torx #25 bit.
* The four bolts that hold the seat down use 14mm hex head bolts. They come out easy. I used a 10-inch extension to make the front-tranny-side bolt easier to turn.
* Beside the 4 bolts, there are two pegs under the tracks (on each side, in the middle) that lock into the car's floor. You have to slide the seat backward about 2 inches (make sure both tracks move back equally) in order to lift the seat out of place.
* rock it back a little bit, and disconnect the two electrical connections in the front, and then you can just lay it against the back seat. I propped the front of mine up with a jack stand to keep it tilted, otherwise it wants to sit back down.
The entire operation took about 10-15 minutes with my brother in law helping, giving us full access to all the hardware under the seat. Time well spent considering I could barely even reach my hands under there before.
Here's what I found: The part that was clicking was the little black memory box. We unhooked the plugs, and my brother in law (who happens to be an electrical engineer) popped the box open like it was second nature. He looked at the circuit board, and immediately spotted the problem: There were two little burned spots on the board where it had short circuited. One of the burns was right next to the main relay (the one that he says controls the other 4 or 5 relays on the circuit). That explains why non of the manual switches or memory switches were responding at all.
Anyway, now I know what I'm buying at the junk yard!
