I get so focused on what the manual says sometimes that my brain locks up.
I thought of the idea of moving the plug wires one spot over last night and rotating the distributor to a more normal position, but just seemed like too easy of a fix. I'm glad it's the cure and it's a simple one and you guys confirmed it.
I guess the spark plugs don't care where the spark comes from, as long as they get it and at the right time.

Thanks for the help until my next over reaction.
