Tailgate lock S90-V90 1998

Hi,
I recently discovered that my tailgate door is not locked! Whether I lock it with the remote or try to lock it manually, it does not lock? Note, the rest of the doors are locked. Any ideas on how I should start investigating? I did some research on this website to no avail. And I did open the tailgate and fiddled with the lock, but no luck.
