A few years ago there was a post by a knowledgable BB poster who stated that Volvo themselves had released a statement that the flame trap was not necessary. After reading that and having numerous seal leaks, I summarily tossed mine!

Your call, but as noted in a post below, it is only the disc that should be discarded.

Hey, I am not clear on this. Did you replace the oil separator? Is that what made the car run better? BTW - It isn't your imagination. My car always runs better when the breather system is clean/clear.
