thermal timer makes sense except i thought the wire colors were blue/yellow. if it's the thermal timer, which does exist in the lh wiring, the connector is a tiny thing, not at all similar to the connectors on the injectors. i've not seen anything else along the firewall that's excess wiring. the test point you mention is along the inner fender, near the headlight relay. good luck, chuck.
