Hi,


The squeal along with the lack of power steering indicates that the problem is related to the power steering.

The squealing noise could be a loose belt, and when it slips the power steering assist is lost. Does the squeal get worse while turning the steering to the endstops?

I'd check and adjust the belt tension if this is the case.
