Personally, I like the wobble stick shifter... long throws, but the lack of linkage offers a precise feel...

That said.. if you must do the short shift modification, I'd go for a early 1800s shifter... in my opinion, a much better feel than that from a late 140. I really like the shifter in my '65 1800... I also think it's a design that holds up better than the 140s. I think the location might suit you better than the 140 setup, though not sure about that...
