You may want to elaborate on your setup. Do you have a V8 in a 544 with a auto tranny with a external J OD setup?

Was there a one-time event that killed the OD, or was the damage caused slowly over time (i.e. noise that became louder, etc).

The J OD has a one-way gear in it. Was it engaged when the car was moved backwards?
