OD 444-544

Anything can be rebuilt. Where it becomes a question of what to do with an OD that is destroyed inside is which parts need replacement.

If the unit is as you say, exploded!, then the cost of parts to rebuild even before you add in my labor and shipping will far exceed a used OD from a salvage yard. Even if you picked up a trans/OD combo for somewhere around $350 you are money ahead. Get a unit from a U-Pick-It type place and you are money way ahead.

If you want me to rebuild it, figure the cost of shipping a 35 pound unit both ways between your address and a 64108 zip code. Then add my basic $100 flat fee which covers disassembly, parts examination, if nothing wrong with internal parts, reassembly with all new gaskets, O-rings, rear shaft seal, reboxed and shipped back.

If any parts need replacement, you would pay a $35 per hour labor rate to R&R the part plus the cost of the part.

Wild guess if exploded as you say. Sliding member $350, its bearing $46, the other two bearings $26 and $18, labor for those close to three hours, flush the fluid paths 1 hour. That's $580 on top of the base $100 and still does not include shipping or any other parts that may have suffered from the destruction.

I suggest you find a good used OD from a salvage yard, even if you have to buy the tranny as well. Probably half of what I'd have to charge you.

I'd still advise with a used unit on what you need to look for and what to replace before a reinstall so the replaaced unit does not suffer the same fate.

I'll rebuild if you want. It's your money. I just feel there is a more cost effective solution.

Duane
