I certainly wouldn't say you've 'been had' or 'scammed'... it's just that there is an alarmingly large number of folks who don't know what to look for...
The previous owners of my 122 swore to me that it was original paint... when I finally took delivery, seeing it for the first time... it's absolutely been painted. They weren't being dishonest.. they just didn't know what to look for. A few weeks ago, I was looking at a '93 Jaguar for cheap.. fella said it was all original. I pointed out to him the substandard paint quality on the drivers rear quarter, including overspray on gaskets and fixtures.. he still couldn't be convinced. But, he wasn't trying to scam.. he just didn't know what to look for.. and, his $2k asking price was still half fair market value or less...
Overspray on gaskets absolutely means all or part of the car has been re-sprayed. Period. It's ok though...
Enjoy your car!
