240 front strut won't insert

I am switching from boge to bilstein HD. The outer diameter of the Bilstein is greater than the boge, and on the driver's strut it barely fit down with a bit of lube. On the passenger side, it goes about 8 inches and won't go any further. I cleaned the inside with solvent, and tried lube to no avail. Does this mean my strut is bent? Any suggestions are appreciated. Paul.
