Is this the little U-joint about the size of a walnut? Mine went to pot on me in Panama years ago.
I managed to replace it with a steering shaft from a VW that had 2 U-joints in it.
Looking at later models they look exactly like mine!
It has been so long ago that I don't remember exactly how I did it but I don't think I had to remove the steering column to do it.
