My 1988 245 is hard to start when warmed up. Cold it starts like its on the showroom floor. I have come to believe that maybe my fuel pressure regulator is failing. I have replaced the check valve and the fuel filter. The car has stalled out twice after high speed interstate runs (30-85 miles). The first time I replaced the FP relay. May not hae been the problem.?? The latest time I let the car rest for 10 minutes and it started up. I had to pat the gas pedal to get the engine to idle and barely go.
The question I have is... I have a 3.0 pressure regulator from a 1990 or 1991 engine along with the injector rail and injectors(yellow). My current fuel regulator is 2.5 and black injectors. Can I replace my FPR, rail and injectors wiht the 1990-91 model? Is the pressure regulator paired with the injectors, or is the pairing between the fuel pump, computer, Pressure regulator, and injectors? I don't want to go drop $70 on a new FPR and have it not be the problem.
I had someone tell me that if the vacuum hose coming off the FPR smells like gas the FPR is bad. Is that the case? Am I barking up the wrong tree? I am feeling like I need a psychic to tell my mechanic what is wrong with the car since my car has no diagnostic computer.
