It will be very tough to diagnose this without an OEM wiring diagram manual: get one for about $30 from Volvo. They are essential in any dodgy cases like this one.
Weird effects can appear from corroded grounds: check the FAQ regarding how to inspect, deoxidize, and protect your grounding points. A corroded ground point will screw up every circuit attached to it in unpredictable ways depending on current loads.
