Mine "ticks" too - a bit heavier than a tick, and it doesn't want to go away. Brickboard wisdom says this is probably due to either a sticking valve or a problem with a hydraulic cam follower. I also have 200,000 well-serviced km's (120k mi), and use only big-name gas, usually Shell.
Weather here rarely gets what you would call "hot", so I use Mobil-1 5W30. Its high temperature viscosity is actually slightly greater than the 10W30, so I cannot see how it could be the problem, and the tick/knock is there from cold, when the oil is moderately thick. I believe the synthetics have superior capabilities at high and low temperatures, leave less deposits, and can run longer between changes so I use them. If you are a believer in frequent oil changes, and don't experience severe high or low temps, synthetics are probably not worthwhile.
Before getting into taking a lot of nuts, bolts and parts off the engine for a possible oil pressure issue, find a way to connect a gauge and see what's going on...cold/hot, low revs/high revs, etc.
Oil pump pipe O-rings? I thought that was just a red block thing?
