You will want to check and adjust the timing as needed? These cars are not always happy with 87 octane,might have to move up a grade. As far as a knock sensor goes i am preety sure the 88 does not have one? 88 was the last yr of manual timing adjustment of the b230f. You will need an inductive timing light to check it.
