points gap closing and dwell increasing 120-130

My guess is that lack of a ballast is NOT your problem. If it was too much current affecting
the points, especially melting them, you could tell it at a glance.
My experience with the 240 ignition system has been uniformly good.
Mine came with a ballast, a little cylindrical metal gadget that looked like a short piece
of a heating element with a clamp in the middle and terminals at both ends.
I went ahead and used it but probably next time I'll try to use the original 122 coil.
BTW the 1975 164 also had electronic ignition AND trigger points for the D-jet FI system.
