You may very well be on the right track with the cat. I hope that resolves it. In the meantime, check your check valve on your brake booster. I had one fail in the middle of a bridge (how handy) and barely got to the other side. I plugged it with a penny and made it through the rest of the day until I got a used one from a PNP.
